Are the main two categories of prevailing torque lock nuts. The lock element by metal/nylon inserted or by elliptically deformation on the threads of nuts to get a fricton constant. All metal prevailing torque type lock nuts achieve their prevailing torque by distorting the threads of the nut, then bites into the mating part when tightened.
